Big Data Open Lab – laboratory for Big Data technologies promotion

Moscow, September 4th, 2014 — Dell company and the Institute for System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISP RAS) in association with CompTek company announce the opening of Big Data Open Lab - a practical center for promotion and development of very-large-scale databases analysis technologies to the benefit of Russian organizations. This laboratory is an open platform for testing new solutions and launching pilot projects. Now under Big Data Open Lab all organizations, related to large volumes of data - oil and gas producers, banks, medical and educational institutions, development and building organizations, industrial enterprises - will be able to receive an expert appraisal of Big Data technologies utilization efficiency in certain problems solving as well as technical support for test projects implementation.

Big Data Open Lab is located in Moscow at the premises of the ISP RAS. Basing on ISP RAS and Dell professionals experience, Big Data Open Lab will provide the complete infrastructure required for test launch of projects aimed at solving potential customers and partners specific tasks, be it infrastructure optimization, availability level raising or scalable platform building.

Big Data Open Lab technological base consists of Dell hardware: servers (PowerEdge M620 blade-systems), commutators (Dell Force10), data storage systems (PowerVault MD3820i), — and free software: Openstack, Hadoop, GridGain, Apache Spark, Infinispan, Terracotta, Ehcache etc. Furthermore, Dell Boomi and StatSoft software solutions, aimed at building open solutions for Big Data, will be used during project launching in Big Data Open Lab.

Development and active promotion of innovative technologies through Dell Decision centers — both private and in cooperation with partners and largest research centers and universities around the world, — is a strategic direction of Dell progress. Among these centers there are Dell Decision center in Limerick (Ireland), Dell and Cambridge University HPC-decisions center (Great Britain), Pisa University IT-center (Italy). The result of teamwork under such centers are best practices in reference architectures, test projects on software and hardware integration for Big Data solution building. Big Data Open Lab laboratory will provide any willing organization free access to these resources.
