Efficiency evaluation of the information systems for the data processing of the Earth remote sensing

Abstract

Modern trends in the development of space systems (SS) for Earth remote sensing (ERS) put forward the highest demands on the availability and efficiency of providing space information to consumers. For this purpose, developers propose various information systems and software platforms for data processing and the formation of ERS information products. Despite the widest variety of applied thematic tasks of remote monitoring, researchers have defined a typical component composition for the creation of specialized ERS information systems. At the same time, the choice of a specific architecture of ERS data processing information systems is determined by the implemented technological processes, as well as the features of the information and computing infrastructure used. Considering that researchers have not yet developed criteria for the effectiveness of information systems for the streaming generation of ERS information products, the evaluation of the information system architectures (and their implementations) proposed by developers is performed primarily at a qualitative level. In this paper, we propose an approach for quantitatively assessing the efficiency of ERS data processing information systems, which represent a set of sequential technological processes implemented on the basis of typical components. Using the proposed approach, we analyzed the architecture of the geoinformation service, which is a software platform for the streaming formation of high-level ERS information products. The ways of increasing the efficiency of this software platform are shown, and the possibilities of redistributing computing resources with the same efficiency are determined.
