Abstract

This article presents a comparative analysis of XML and JSON formats as fundamental standards for scientific data exchange and storage. The research relevance is determined by the increasing volumes of scientific information and the conceptual differences between document-oriented approaches (XML) and web development practices (JSON). The study aims to establish the boundaries of effective application for each format in modern scientific communication systems and assess their integration potential. The methodology encompasses analysis of technical characteristics (syntax, typing, metadata), performance evaluation (data volume, parsing speed), comparison of tool ecosystems (XPath/JSONPath, XSD/JSON Schema, XSLT/jq), along with examination of security aspects and specific use cases (JATS/TEI for XML; scientific APIs and big data for JSON). The research outcomes provide structured criteria for format selection tailored to various scientific communication requirements.
