Reflexes of Samoyed *j-: k-, tʲ-/ čʲ- and *-ŋk-: -ŋq-, -qq- in Selkup dialects
Abstract
The paper presents the reflexes of Samoyed *j-: k-, tʲ-/čʲ- and *-ŋk-: -ŋq-,-qq- in Selkup dialects. These isoglosses are among the most ancient and allow dividing the Selkup territory into two language zones: Central-Northern and Southern. The aim of the study is to identify the dialect-to-dialect variation of the reflexes of these Samoyedic consonants in the southern, transitional, central and northern Selkup dialects based on the materials of the XIX–XXI centuries. The work is based on both corpus-based statistical research methods and the use of the Lingvodoc platform tools, as well as a formal analysis of vocabulary materials. The study revealed that in a number of words 1) Samoyedic *j- has the following reflexes among dialects: southern, transitional (Ivankino) k-; central tʲ-/čʲ- (in Narym dialect tʲ-/čʲ- ~ k-); northern in the XIX century: tʲ-/čʲ-; in the XX century: čʲ-; 2) and Samoyedic *-ŋk- the following: southern -ŋq-; transitional (Ivankino), central, northern -qq-. The presented data confirm the status of the Ivankino dialect as a transitional one, where Samoyedic *j- is reflected as k-, which allows us to attribute the dialect to the southern zone, and the reflex of Samoyedic *-ŋk- takes the form of -qq-, which is a characteristic feature of the central and northern dialect groups.
